Welcome to MASSA!

A message to new members

Welcome - you are not alone!

If you've attended just one meeting, to us, you're a fellow member and we're glad you're here.

Our program is relatively new in the 12-step world, you are part of a growing community.

We are all giving and receiving help from each other all the time, so just by signing up you are helping us.

Thank you for joining Misery Addicts and Self-Sabotagers Anonymous - It is a brave (and scary) thing to think of oneself as a possible misery addict, or as addicted to self-sabotage, even if you see yourself, as many of us did, on every page of the book, "When Misery Is Company" by Anne Katherine.

Many people have found us through this book. Some of the members are new to the 12-step concept; some have been in 12-step programs for years. It doesn't seem to matter, the online meetings of MASSA are a whole new dimension in understanding and hope to recover from self-sabotage.

Right from the beginning most of us felt like we belonged, but some of us kept coming even if we didn't like the first meeting. It was a tremendous relief to be in contact with other people like us.

The core of our online fellowship, and the real help, is in our face-to-face online
12-step recovery meetings themselves. Please check out the Meetings page of this website for times and details for each meeting.

Our group is small, so far, and committed. Since you have come this far, we encourage and welcome you to attend as many meetings as you can.

We follow the format of other 12-step programs, on page 176 of Katherine's book she describes "12-step meeting etiquette" so you will have an idea what to expect, if you aren't already a 12-step person. We also encourage members to attend face-to-face meetings of any of the 12-step fellowships that may meet your needs.

Welcome again, and we hope to meet you soon as we seek recovery together.

When you start attending recovery meetings, we kindly suggest that you attend at least six meetings, from beginning to end, BEFORE deciding whether the program is right for you. It is our hope that before six meetings have passed, you may be able to experience the love, peace and hope of the program for yourself.
